IV Sedation Dentistry in Houston, TX

Anxious about implant surgery? IV sedation lets you sleep through the entire procedure. You won't feel anything, won't remember anything, and you'll wake up with your implants already placed. Available for all procedures at Texas Dental Implant Center.

How IV Sedation Works

IV sedation delivers medication directly into your bloodstream through an IV line in your arm. Within seconds, you're in a deep state of relaxation — conscious but unaware of the procedure happening. Most patients don't remember anything from the time the IV starts until they wake up in recovery.

It's not general anesthesia. You're breathing on your own the entire time. But from your perspective, you close your eyes and wake up when it's done.

Dr. Azer monitors your vitals throughout the procedure. The sedation level can be adjusted in real time — deeper if needed, lighter as the procedure wraps up. It's precise and controlled.

IV sedation is especially useful for longer procedures like full mouth implant placement (All-on-4, All-on-X), multiple extractions, or bone grafting — cases where you'd be in the chair for a few hours. It keeps you completely comfortable while Dr. Azer works.

Who Should Consider IV Sedation?

Dental anxiety or phobia

If the thought of dental surgery makes you anxious, sedation removes that experience entirely. You won't be aware of the procedure.

Long procedures

Full mouth implant cases, multiple extractions with immediate implant placement, and bone grafting can take several hours. IV sedation makes that time disappear.

Strong gag reflex

Sedation suppresses the gag reflex, making it easier for Dr. Azer to work and more comfortable for you.

Difficulty getting numb

Some patients don't respond well to local anesthesia alone. IV sedation ensures complete comfort regardless.

Multiple procedures in one visit

If you're having extractions, bone grafting, and implant placement in a single appointment, sedation makes the combined procedure manageable.

You don't have to be terrified of the dentist to benefit from sedation. Many patients simply prefer not to be aware during a surgical procedure — and that's a perfectly good reason.

What to Expect with IV Sedation

Before your appointment

  • Don't eat or drink for 6-8 hours before (Dr. Azer's team will give you specific instructions)
  • Arrange for someone to drive you home — you can't drive after sedation
  • Wear comfortable clothing with sleeves that roll up easily for the IV

During the procedure

  • The IV is placed in your arm (a small pinch — that's the last thing most patients remember)
  • Sedation takes effect within seconds
  • Dr. Azer performs the procedure while monitoring your vitals
  • You breathe on your own throughout — no breathing tube

After the procedure

  • You'll rest in recovery until the sedation wears off (usually 15-30 minutes)
  • Your driver takes you home
  • You'll feel groggy for the rest of the day — plan to rest
  • Most patients feel normal by the next morning
